PROPOSED CALENDER OF ACTIVITIES FOR 2012

Hi All,

I do hope this does find you in good spirits.
This is to bring to your attention what we as a society to achieve in the calendar year 2012.
The activities outlined below are in line with the SES goals as explained in Article 2 of the SES constitution.

1.    Hold fortnightly career talks.
2.    Host corporate guests once a month.
3.    Have a semester project (to be undertaken every semester).
4.    Produce the PEN updates fortnightly.
5.    Produce the 11th edition of the Progressive Engineer magazine.
6.    Run a mentorship programme.
7.    Hold an Engineers’ career day in June.
8.    Hold a dinner in the first quarter of the second semester.
9.    Conduct a high school outreach each semester.

As indicated, there are a lot of activities to done & as such this requires the constitution of some event-based committees so as to see them to fruition.
These committees are;
1.    The Dinner Committee.
2.    The Career Day Committee.
3.    The Finance Committee.
4.    The outreach Committee.

The formation of these committees is entrenched in the SES constitution article 10, sub articles (ii) & (iii).
We therefore would like to request your assistance, in the form of members (i.e. yourself) signing up to be in the committees to run these events.

For any queries and suggestions kindly do feel free to contact any of the officials & we will get back to you ASAP.

Thank you for all your continued support & All the best as you sit your examinations.

Also as this may be the last communication from us for the year 2011, I must say Merry Christmas & a very very happy 2012 :)

Regards.

The Engineer and the Manager.

Hot air baloon.

A man is flying a hot air balloon and realizes he is lost. He reduces height and spots a man down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts, "Excuse me. Can you help me? I promised my friend I would meet him a half-hour ago, but I don't know where I am." The man below says, "Yes, you are in a hot air balloon, hovering

approximately 30 feet above this field. You are between 40 and 42 degrees N. latitude, and between 58 and 60 degrees W. longitude."

"You must be an engineer," says the balloonist.

"I am," replies the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," says the balloonist, "everything you have told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost."

The man below says, "You must be a manager."

"I am," replies the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," says the man below, "you don't know where you are, or where you are going. You've made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now it is somehow my fault."

THE PLATFORM

SES-JKUAT welcomes you all to the new academic year (2011-2012).

We have setup this blog site to provide a platform for interaction and exchange of ideas amongst stakeholders.

This year, we intend to engage in activities that promote the interest of all Engineering Students and the University community, in phase with developing a sense of personal and communal responsibility through actual participation in projects initiated by students as well as collaborate with establishments for a collective benefit.

Our magazine Progressive Engineer is set to be recharged to include a native bias and a stress on local accomplishments. We would like to celebrate home-grown talent and help identify mentors within the industry.

We welcome your input into the activities we have planned for this year.
